Preorder Whispers of Water

Genre: Memoir | Environmental & Cultural History

More than a memoir, Whispers of Water is a lyrical exploration of place, identity, and the delicate balance between human legacy and the natural world. Set along Alaska’s iconic Kenai River, this evocative narrative blends personal history with the larger story of a land shaped by time, salmon, and the people who have depended on them for generations.

Through rich storytelling and vivid prose, the author captures the untamed beauty of the river, the thrill of its legendary salmon runs, and the sobering reality of a watershed under pressure. From indigenous salmon people to homesteaders, from childhood wonder to environmental advocacy, this book is a love letter to a river in danger and a call to action for its future.

Perfect for lovers of adventure, history, and conservation, Whispers of Water speaks to anyone who has ever felt a connection to wild places—and the responsibility to protect them before it’s too late.

About Terri Carter

Born and raised on the banks of Alaska’s legendary Kenai River, Terri Carter is a storyteller shaped by the wild places that have always been home. A lifelong resident of Soldotna, she comes from a long line of homesteaders and adventurers, people who built lives as rugged and relentless as the land itself. Her voice carries the memory of a place that raised her with both grace and grit.

Whispers of Water is her first book, a tender weaving of memory, history, and environmental witness. It is at once a tribute and a warning, a song of home and a call to action. Through it, Terri invites us to lean in, to hear what the river is still trying to say, and to protect its voice before it fades.
